Turn the wasted travel day into the highlight of your trip with stops at Bratislava and Melk Abbey & Old Town on your journey from Budapest to Salzburg.
We are a family of five travelling for two weeks. We booked four trips with Sidetrip and it was the best decision ever! We had a different guide for each trip and all four of them (Markéta, Klara, Ákos and Pavlina) were great! They were very professional,. knowledgeable, drove very well, ensured that we were comfortable and took beautiful family photos for us. We got to see many places and we are very happy with the fantastic arrangement and service. Highly recommended!
We’ll visit Bratislava Old Town that is famous for its medieval buildings, narrow streets, and little courtyards. You’ll learn about the history of the region as we wander around the city centre. We will also admire the beautiful castle of Bratislava that towers over the whole Old Town. The castle was rebuilt in the 20th century and reminds us of the importance of this city throughout history.
In Bratislava you will also have time for a lunch break (not included).
About Bratislava
Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia with a population of about 475 000 people. The location of Bratislava has been inhabited continuously for almost 7000 years. The city is situated on the Danube River that has brought people, wealth, and trade to the area.
For a long time Bratislava was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. It is under the 18th-century reign of Queen Maria Theresa that the city truly flourished. After the First World War Bratislava became part of Czechoslovakia and the population of Czechs and Slovaks in the city grew. The city became the capital of Slovakia after the Velvet Divorce in 1993 when Slovak Republic separated from the Czech Republic.

There's a variety of activities to enjoy in Melk. We can start by exploring the iconic Melk Abbey (tickets not included), known for its rich history and stunning library. Admire the beautiful Baroque architecture and explore the treasures inside.
For those who prefer not to visit the abbey, a leisurely stroll through Melk's Old Town offers a glimpse into its medieval charm with picturesque streets and historic buildings. Take a walk along the riverside promenade to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Danube River and the surrounding scenery. Whether visiting the abbey or exploring the town, Melk offers a rewarding experience.
Additionally, you will have time for a lunch break (not included) in Melk.
About Melk
Nestled in the picturesque Wachau Valley in Lower Austria, Melk boasts a centuries-old history as a significant trading center along the Danube River. Its rise to prominence began with the establishment of Melk Abbey in 1089.
Originally a Benedictine monastery, the abbey became a hub of culture and learning over the years, attracting scholars and artists from afar. Renowned for its library housing rare manuscripts and priceless art, the abbey underwent a grand Baroque renovation in the 18th century.
Despite challenges, such as wars, Melk Abbey remains a symbol of faith and heritage, captivating visitors with its rich history and stunning beauty.

We had a great experience with Side Trip.
We were lucky to have Levi, a great driver and trip guide on our trip from Budapest to St. Wolfgansee.
We were with him for nearly 10 hours and it was never boring.
We visited pretty and interesting places with him.
He has great history knowledge and is a nice man.
We can highly recommend Side Trip.
Relaxing and enjoyable.
What a luxury to be picked up at our Airbnb in Budapest driven in comfort to see the beautiful towns/villages of Bratislava and Melk. Could have stayed all day in Melk it was lovely. And then to be delivered to our Airbnb in Salzburg.
I highly recommend Sidetrips to get from one destination to another and discover treasures along the way.
Wonderful experience along the Danube
We had a great drive and Adam was a great driver and guide. Along the way, Adam provided us a history of the area. Bratislava Was beautiful. Adam guided us through the old town and suggested a wonderful place to sample Slovakian food. We then travelled to Melk where we visited Abbey and old town with awesome facts from Adam.
Would definitely recommend this Sidetrip with Adam.
