We will stroll through Regensburg’s charming Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where history comes to life at every turn. Our walk takes us to the magnificent St. Peter’s Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture that dominates the city skyline.
As we wander through the cobblestone streets, we’ll soak in the historic atmosphere and admire the well-preserved medieval buildings that make Regensburg one of Germany’s most treasured cities. We’ll also cross the Stone Bridge, a remarkable 12th-century engineering feat that once served as the only way to traverse the Danube in this region.
With stunning views of Regensburg’s Old Town at every corner, this walk offers a perfect blend of history, architecture, and scenic beauty, all set within one of Europe’s most remarkable UNESCO-listed sites.
About Regensburg
Regensburg is a historically important city where three rivers—the Danube, Naab, and Regen—meet, making it a key crossroads for trade and travel throughout the centuries. Before modern bridges, crossing large rivers was difficult, but in the 12th century, the construction of a stone bridge over the Danube helped Regensburg grow into a wealthy trade center.
Remarkably, the city’s Old Town suffered little damage during World War II, preserving its rich medieval architecture and historic charm. During the tour we visit the Brewery Museum (optional) to learn more about the making of beer and why it is so important for Czechs. Pilsen city also has a charming Old Town with the beautiful St Bartholomew Cathedral, Town Hall, and the stunning Great Synagogue that you will see as we walk around in Pilsen.
You will have a chance to taste Pilsner Urquell, the world famous beer during lunch (not included).
About Pilsen
Pilsen is one of the Czech Republic’s most important historic and cultural cities. Founded in 1295, it grew into a key trading and industrial center. The city gained even greater importance in the 19th century during the industrialization of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with the founding of major industries such as the famous Škoda Works.
Today, Pilsen is world-famous as the birthplace of Pilsner beer, first brewed in 1842 at the Pilsner Urquell Brewery. Visitors can still experience this brewing tradition firsthand, touring historic breweries and sampling some of the world’s most iconic beers.
Beyond its brewing heritage, Pilsen boasts a beautifully preserved old town, centered around Republic Square that is dominated by the gothic St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral and the Renaissance Town Hall.

We’ll walk up the hill to Karlštejn Castle, passing through a charming village before reaching the dramatic fortress and enjoying stunning countryside views.
What we'll do
We will walk up the hill to Karlštejn Castle’s courtyard. The castle sits on a steep hill and stays hidden from view until it suddenly appears high above you, creating a dramatic sight.
On the way up, we’ll pass through a small village at the base of the hill. The main road leading to the castle is lined with little shops and cafés, offering a great chance to take short breaks and enjoy the atmosphere.
Once we reach the top, we’ll be rewarded with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, making the climb well worth it.

Karlštejn Castle has seasonal opening hours and is closed on Mondays. When open, we visit the freely accessible courtyards. If it is closed, we still enjoy the surroundings below the castle or suggest a suitable alternative stop based on timing, road conditions, and visibility.
About Karlštejn Castle
Karlštejn Castle, built in the 14th century by Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, was designed as a fortified treasury to safeguard the royal treasures, sacred relics, and the Bohemian Crown Jewels. Strategically perched atop a steep hill, the castle was intended not only as a secure stronghold but also as a place of spiritual retreat for the emperor.
One of the most important and famous castles in Czechia, Karlštejn is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, featuring massive fortifications, soaring towers, and beautifully decorated interiors. Among its highlights is the Chapel of the Holy Cross, once used to store the crown jewels and adorned with precious stones and stunning frescoes by Master Theodoric.
Walking through the castle’s courtyard feels like stepping back in time, as the medieval atmosphere, well-preserved structures, and breathtaking views over the countryside make Karlštejn a true historical gem and a must-visit site in Czechia.

Our private tour from Munich to Prague was a great way to see some interesting sites along the way and learn a bit more about the history and people of the region. Since the train trip between the two cities can be a bit long, a private tour was perfect to add a little sightseeing and great food into the day! What made the trip even better was our wonderful guide, Valerie, who shared insights about the region and what daily life is like in Prague. Most importantly, when our younger child got a severe earache during the ride, she jumped into action, taking us to a local pharmacy and helping translate the issue. We couldn't have done that on our own. When she dropped us off at our Airbnb (a huge bonus!), she provided a full list of recommendations for our stay in Prague. Overall, a wonderful and personalized experience!
