We’ll visit one of the most iconic spots in Saxon Switzerland National Park—the breathtaking Bastei Bridge. Built in the 19th century, when the region first became a popular destination for nature lovers and artists, the bridge connects towering sandstone rock formations high above the Elbe River.
From the Bastei rocks and the bridge, you’ll enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the endless green forests that stretch across the landscape. It’s one of the most photogenic locations in the region and a perfect place to take in the natural beauty of Saxon Switzerland.
About Bastei Bridge
Bastei Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, a dramatic landscape that stretches along the border of Germany and the Czech Republic. This unique region is protected as a national park on both sides—Saxon Switzerland National Park in Germany and Bohemian Switzerland National Park in the Czech Republic.
Built in the 19th century, the Bastei Bridge was designed to connect towering sandstone rock formations that had been shaped over millions of years by wind and water erosion. Though the mountains here aren’t especially high (722.8 meters) they are famous for their spectacular rock spires, cliffs, and deep gorges.
From the Bastei Bridge, visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the Elbe River, surrounding forests, and the rugged stone landscape, making it one of the most photogenic and memorable stops in the region.
We will explore Dresden’s beautifully restored Old Town, admiring the extravagant Zwinger Palace, the stunning Frauenkirche, and the famous porcelain mosaic of the Procession of Princes.

As we walk through the beautifully restored Old Town, we’ll pass some of its most iconic landmarks, including the Royal Residence, the magnificent Zwinger Palace, and the Dresden Frauenkirche, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture.
We’ll also admire the famous Procession of Princes, the world’s largest porcelain artwork, depicting centuries of Saxon rulers in an awe-inspiring mosaic. Along the way, you’ll hear fascinating stories about August II the Strong, the visionary ruler who shaped Dresden’s Baroque beauty, as well as the city’s destruction and remarkable reconstruction after World War II.
There will also be time for a lunch break (not included), allowing you to relax and soak in the charming atmosphere of this historic city.
About Dresden

We’ll walk through the scenic grounds of Moritzburg Palace, a striking Baroque masterpiece surrounded by a tranquil lake. Once a lavish hunting lodge of Saxon nobility, the palace is known for its elegant symmetry, ornate towers, and stunning reflections in the water.
As we explore the beautifully landscaped gardens and park, we’ll take in picturesque views of the estate’s tree-lined pathways, decorative sculptures, and serene ponds.
While we won’t enter the palace, we’ll get a close-up look at its grand exterior and soak in the regal atmosphere. On the palace steps, you’ll even have the chance to embrace a fairy-tale moment by trying on Cinderella’s shoe—who knows, it might just be a perfect fit!
About Moritzburg Palace
Moritzburg Palace is a beautiful Baroque castle, surrounded by lakes, forests, and gardens, making it one of the most picturesque landmarks in Saxony. Originally built as a small hunting lodge in the 16th century, it was transformed into the grand palace we see today in the 18th century by August II the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland.
The palace’s symmetrical design, with its four round towers and golden-hued walls, reflects the elegance of Baroque architecture. Inside, the richly decorated rooms feature ornate ceilings, intricate woodwork, and a remarkable collection of hunting trophies.
Surrounding the palace is a stunning park and garden complex, originally planned as a formal Baroque garden. However, despite numerous designs over the centuries, the gardens were never fully completed, and work on the landscape continues even today. Visitors can still enjoy graceful bridges, tree-lined avenues, and scenic lakeside views, making it a perfect place for a leisurely walk.

I think most people fly or take the train, but we felt that we would miss all the interesting stuff along the way, so we took this excursion. Good thing we did. The trip was a nice way to break up the day and see interesting sites. Valerie, our guide and driver was awesome. She was knowledgeable and personable. While it may be a bit expensive. I highly recommend this tour.
