What we'll do
We will walk up the hill to Karlštejn Castle’s courtyard. The castle sits on a steep hill and stays hidden from view until it suddenly appears high above you, creating a dramatic sight.
On the way up, we’ll pass through a small village at the base of the hill. The main road leading to the castle is lined with little shops and cafés, offering a great chance to take short breaks and enjoy the atmosphere.
Once we reach the top, we’ll be rewarded with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, making the climb well worth it.
Please note!
Karlštejn Castle has seasonal opening hours and is closed on Mondays. When open, we visit the freely accessible courtyards. If it is closed, we still enjoy the surroundings below the castle or suggest a suitable alternative stop based on timing, road conditions, and visibility.

About Karlštejn Castle
Karlštejn Castle, built in the 14th century by Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, was designed as a fortified treasury to safeguard the royal treasures, sacred relics, and the Bohemian Crown Jewels. Strategically perched atop a steep hill, the castle was intended not only as a secure stronghold but also as a place of spiritual retreat for the emperor.
One of the most important and famous castles in Czechia, Karlštejn is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, featuring massive fortifications, soaring towers, and beautifully decorated interiors. Among its highlights is the Chapel of the Holy Cross, once used to store the crown jewels and adorned with precious stones and stunning frescoes by Master Theodoric.

Pilsen city also has a charming Old Town with the beautiful St Bartholomew Cathedral, Town Hall, and the stunning Great Synagogue that you will see as we walk around in Pilsen.

About Pilsen
Pilsen is one of the Czech Republic’s most important historic and cultural cities. Founded in 1295, it grew into a key trading and industrial center. The city gained even greater importance in the 19th century during the industrialization of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with the founding of major industries such as the famous Škoda Works.

We will stroll through Regensburg’s charming Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where history comes to life at every turn. Our walk takes us to the magnificent St. Peter’s Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture that dominates the city skyline.
As we wander through the cobblestone streets, we’ll soak in the historic atmosphere and admire the well-preserved medieval buildings that make Regensburg one of Germany’s most treasured cities. About Regensburg
Regensburg is a historically important city where three rivers—the Danube, Naab, and Regen—meet, making it a key crossroads for trade and travel throughout the centuries. Before modern bridges, crossing large rivers was difficult, but in the 12th century, the construction of a stone bridge over the Danube helped Regensburg grow into a wealthy trade center.

Castles, Breweries and Sheep Crossings!
Jan communicated extremely well right off the bat regarding pick up time and location. He was prompt, knowledgeable and fun! We enjoyed a very pleasant mix of walking, including a well worth it up hill jaunt to the Karlštejn Castle complete with a pastry treat on the downhill, eating and drinking in Pilsen and car time including a slow down when a heard of sheep declared the right of way. It made a world of difference having a guide all along the way. What could have been simply a travel day was instead a fun, educational tour day.
