Fantastic tour

Our tour from Krakow to Prague was wonderful. Our driver and guide, Marketa, was so friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. The stop in Kutna Hora was especially a highlight. What a beautiful city, and the Sedlec Ossuary was one of the most interesting places we’ve ever seen. This is a daylong trip from 8am to 6pm, but Marketa made it go by quickly. We learned so much from her about Czech culture and history. Next time we’re in Central Europe, we will use Sidetrip’s again to travel from one city to the next. For what you get, the cost is very reasonable.

    What we'll do

We will explore the Old Town with its stunning buildings in different styles (mainly Renaissance and Baroque), two main squares (Upper and Lower), and impressive town hall with the unique Astronomical Clock on one of its walls. If we are lucky, we can even witness the small show the clock makes. But the real highlight of Olomouc is the UNESCO-listed Holy Trinity Column from the early 18th century the largest structure of that kind. After exploring Olomouc and its attractions, it’s time for lunch before heading to the next destination.

    About Olomouc Old Town

Olomouc Old Town, nestled in the heart of the Czech Republic, is a treasure trove of history and architectural wonders. With roots dating back to the 10th century, Olomouc has played a pivotal role in Central European history. The town's rich history is reflected in its well-preserved medieval and Baroque architecture, showcasing a blend of Gothic cathedrals, Renaissance palaces, and charming cobblestone streets.

The centerpiece of Olomouc Old Town is the Holy Trinity Column, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a prime example of Baroque artistry. This impressive monument, erected in the early 18th century, symbolizes the city's resilience against past plagues and wars. Another highlight is the Astronomical Clock, a masterpiece with intricate carvings and a captivating hourly show. It was crafted in the 15th century and rebuilt in the 1950s in the Socialist Realism style.

Olomouc Old Town invites travelers to step back in time, immersing themselves in centuries of history while marveling at the beauty of its well-preserved landmarks.

  • Stop 2: Kutna Hora

We'll take a walk to admire Kutna Hora’s Old Town, it's cathedral and the famous UNESCO listed Bone Church decorated with real human bones.

    Kutna Hora

    What we'll do
We take a walk to admire Kutna Hora’s Old Town and its stunning Cathedral of St Barbara . This church is a truly magnificent mixture of Gothic and Baroque styles. Little out of the city center we will find the Sedlec Ossuary . You will have the chance to see for yourself the human bones that have been used in artful decoration of the chapel as you descend underground.

    About Kutna Hora
Kutna Hora city started to grow around a Cistercian monastery in the 12th century. The fame and wealth of the city came with silver mining a century later. Kutna Hora grew rapidly to be the second biggest city after Prague in the area. The prosperity of the medieval community can be seen in the churches that were built. The most famous of them is the Cathedral of St Barbara, the patron saint of miners.

In the outskirts of Kutna Hora is the chilling Sedlec Ossuary famous for its human bones. This is a Roman Catholic chapel in the cemetery of the Church of All Saints. In early 16 century mass graves were exhumed and more than 40 000 bones were used to decorate the chapel. This tradition of using skulls and bones, real or not, in decoration was widespread in late medieval Europe. The purpose was largely symbolic, a reminder of the inevitability of death.

Best way to include sightseeing on a travel day

This was a fantastic experience. I really dread travel days while on vacation. Lugging suitcases around train stations and airports in the last thing I want to be doing. This was a fantastic way of seeing some new sites on the way to Prague. The combination of scenic small towns and delicious local cuisine made the trip super fun! Our tour guide Stepan was very enthusiastic and highly qualified. It was excellent! Can not recommend this enough and will book again if there is a trip on my route!

Absolutely enjoyed the one way trip from Krakow to Prague

Such a wonderful experience! There are so many beautiful places to discover in Czech Republic. My favourite was definitely Olomouc - a cute and picturesque little town with old houses, just like in a romantic movie. Our local tour guide Peter really brought the little towns to life, with his funny and entertaining stories. I have another trip booked from Prague to Vienna and am looking forward to that with side trip tours. Highly recommend touring as you travel from one city to another.
