    What we'll do

Step into a world of royal grandeur as we visit Herrenchiemsee Palace, often called the “Bavarian Versailles.” Located on an island in Lake Chiemsee, this magnificent palace was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a tribute to France’s Louis XIV. We’ll explore the lavish gardens, admire the stunning fountains, and take in the breathtaking architecture of this unfinished masterpiece. Those interested can tour the palace’s opulent interior (tickets not included), featuring gilded halls, intricate ceiling frescoes, and the spectacular Hall of Mirrors.

For a more relaxed experience, enjoy a peaceful walk through the surrounding park, where nature meets royal elegance. Whether marveling at the palace’s splendor or unwinding in its scenic surroundings, this stop offers a truly regal experience.

    About Herrenchiemsee Palace & Park

Herrenchiemsee Palace is one of King Ludwig II’s most extravagant creations, situated on Herreninsel, the largest island in Lake Chiemsee, Bavaria. Construction began in 1878, inspired by the grandeur of Versailles, but remained incomplete due to the king’s mysterious death in 1886.

Despite its unfinished state, the palace stands as a testament to Ludwig’s vision of absolute monarchy and artistic excellence. Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, intricate fountains, and tranquil lake views, Herrenchiemsee remains a fascinating blend of history, luxury, and natural beauty, making it one of Bavaria’s most impressive royal sites.

  • Stop 2: Bad Reichenhall

We'll unwind in the charming alpine town of Bad Reichenhall, exploring its elegant center, strolling through the serene Kurpark, and discovering its rich salt heritage.

    Bad Reichenhall

    What we'll do

Relax and unwind in the charming alpine town of Bad Reichenhall, famous for its natural salt springs, fresh mountain air, and spa culture. We’ll explore the picturesque town center, where elegant 19th-century architecture blends with stunning mountain views. Stroll through the serene Kurpark (Spa garden), home to the historic Gradierwerk, a unique outdoor inhalation facility that purifies the air with natural salt.

For those interested in history, you can visit the Old Salt Works (Alte Saline) (tickets not included), a fascinating museum showcasing Bad Reichenhall’s centuries-old tradition of salt production. Alternatively, enjoy a peaceful moment in one of the town’s cozy cafés, taking in the relaxed Bavarian atmosphere. Whether seeking wellness, history, or scenic beauty, Bad Reichenhall offers a delightful experience.

Additionally, you will have time for a lunch break (not included) in Bad Reichenhall.

    About Bad Reichenhall

Nestled in the Bavarian Alps near the Austrian border, Bad Reichenhall has been a renowned spa town for centuries, thanks to its rich salt deposits and therapeutic waters. The town’s salt production dates back to Roman times, and by the 19th century, it became a popular retreat for European aristocracy seeking relaxation and healing.

Wonderful day

We scheduled our tour a few months ago. Petra was our guide, she was perfect for our family! We requested 2 stops on our way from Munich to Salzburg. Petra safely transported us all over the countryside and it was magnificent. I highly recommend Sidetrip, and in particular, Petra. Thank you so much for making our trip special.
