Michal is the best!

Michal was punctual and friendly. Before even departing from our hotel, he asked us what our interests are and how he could accommodate us to make the most out of our day. He adjusted our itinerary to make us happy. His car was comfortable and he supplied us with water. Michal took us to a fabulous place to eat for lunch and we shared a delicious meal together. My daughter and I had a wonderful day sightseeing on our way to Budapest. Thank you, Michal!

    What we'll do

We will visit the romantic town of Sopron in the West of Hungary. This city close to the Austrian border has a rich cultural heritage that you will learn about during the tour. The Old Town is an eclectic mix of Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. It’s as if you have stepped back in time when you wander around Sopron.

    About Sopron

There was city here already under the Roman Empire but very little of it remains. The Sopron of today has grown out of a medieval period settlement. The city’s population has grown after the Second World War and is now about 60 000 people. It’s near Sopron that the famous Pan-European Picnic happened on August 19, 1989. During this event thousands of people fled from the Soviet Union controlled Eastern Europe across the Iron Curtain to the West.

    What we'll do

We stop at the famous Eszterháza Palace that is called the Hungarian Versailles . This magnificent Rococo style palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens that we’ll walk around in. Entrance to the palace is for an additional fee, but can be arranged upon request. Eszterháza Palace is where Joseph Haydn composed and in the opera house of the palace many of his works were also performed.

    About the Eszterháza Palace

Eszterháza Palace was built in the 18th century by the Hungarian noble family Esterházy. This family was astoundingly wealthy and they were very influential in the Austria-Hungarian Empire. This building of the palace was a pet-project of Prince Nikolaus Esterházy and became a center of art, culture, and extravagant living in the Habsburg Empire. Franz Joseph Haydn, the prince's court composer for nearly 30 years invented the modern symphony here.

  • Stop 3: Györ

    What we'll do

During the tour we walk around the Old Town of Györ. It’s famous for Baroque style houses and a fabulous Town Hall from 1900. Györ is known for many of its churches that remind us of the 1000-year Christian history of Hungary. We’ll wander around the narrow streets and learn about Hungarian history.

    About Györ
Györ is one of the most important cities in Hungary. The city has a population of about 130 000 people. It’s located on the Danube River. The river has brought people, trade, and wealth to the region throughout history. In the 18th century the city prospered and that is when most of the beautiful Old Town was built. Despite heavy damage to the city in the Second World War Györ has been extensively renovated since the 1970s.

  • Stop 4: Tata Castle

We’ll take a stroll around the Gothic-style Tata Castle on the picturesque lakeside.

    What we'll do

We stop at the Tata Castle during the tour. This beautiful medieval castle is located on the Lake Öreg and surrounded by romantic gardens that we’ll walk around in. This is one of the castles that belonged to the famous Hungarian noble family Esterházy. We’ll enjoy beautiful views over the lake and to the castle from the park as we walk around it.

    About the Tata Castle

The castle is built on the Lake Öreg shores in the 14th century. Throughout the Hungarian history the castle has been conquered and rebuilt several times. Despite all the rebuilding the castle has maintained its historic look. Eventually it was owned by the Esterházy family who were the biggest landowners in the Austria-Hungarian Empire.
